Aguilar Fences
Fences in Chapel Hill, NC and Nearby Towns
Custom fence installation for privacy, pets, pools, and property lines, built to match how you actually use your yard.
A fence has one job, to still be standing straight and doing its work ten years from now, and most of what separates a good fence from a bad one happens before a single post goes in the ground. We walk the property line with you, talk about what the fence needs to keep in or out, and check the ground itself. Clay soil that holds water around a post base is the number one reason fences in this part of North Carolina lean or heave after a few winters, so how deep we set posts and what we set them in matters more here than in sandier soil.
Once we know the layout, we talk materials. Wood gives you the classic look and is easier to repair board by board, but it needs a stain or sealant every few years or it grays and splits. Vinyl and aluminum cost more up front and do not rot, but a cracked vinyl panel usually means replacing the whole section. Chain link is the cheapest way to mark a boundary but offers no privacy at all.
A fence built badly shows up later as a lean after the first hard rain, posts that wobble when you push on them, or gates that drag because the post they hang from was never set deep enough. We set posts below the frost line and in concrete where the ground calls for it, so the fence holds its line for years, not just for the first summer.
How it runs
- Walk and plan We walk the yard with you to talk purpose, layout, and where the property lines actually fall.
- Locate utilities The homeowner calls 811 to have the underground lines marked before we dig. That call is on the homeowner, not us, and we wait until the lines are marked.
- Set posts Posts go in at the depth the soil and fence height call for, set in concrete for stability.
- Build out panels or rails Sections go up level and plumb, checked as we go rather than at the end.
- Hang gates and hardware Gates get hung last so we can adjust for a clean swing and solid latch.
